Nienke Brinkman makes a comeback at the TCS Amsterdam Marathon

Nienke Brinkman will make her comeback on Sunday, October 20, during the TCS Amsterdam Marathon. Brinkman was originally set to start last year at the World Athletics Platinum Label marathon but had to abandon her Olympic qualification attempt shortly before the race. Sports organization Le Champion is very pleased that one of the Netherlands' best marathon runners has once again chosen Amsterdam.

Nienke on her participation in Amsterdam: "I am really looking forward to running in Amsterdam. I was disappointed that I couldn't start last year, so the choice was easy this time. It is incredibly special to run through the capital with 45,000 people."

This Olympic year was a race against the clock for Brinkman. After Amsterdam, her injury continued to trouble her, causing her to miss the Valencia marathon as well. She ultimately chose to make a final qualification attempt in Hamburg, but unfortunately, she did not succeed there either, which means she will definitely miss Paris. Now, three months later, Brinkman has recovered and seems to have her injury under control. The marathon runner is preparing in the Swiss town of St. Moritz, where she trains at an altitude of 1,800 meters.

The marathon runner from the NN Running Team has a personal best of 2:22:51, set in 2022. In that same year, Brinkman won a historic bronze medal at the European Championships in Munich, finishing in 2:28:52.

International Field
The TCS Amsterdam Marathon is one of the fastest marathons in the world, and thanks to the Platinum Label from World Athletics, it is guaranteed to have a strong international field each year. Organizer Le Champion will announce the first international names in early September, after the Olympic Games. The course record for the TCS Amsterdam Marathon is 2:03:39 for men (Tamirat Tola, 2021) and 2:17:20 for women (Almaz Ayana, 2022).

Sold-Out Edition
Registration for the TCS Amsterdam Marathon is no longer possible. The limit of 45,000 participants was reached early in April. Only entry slots for the kids events are still available; for more information.
